Shake your pom-pom!!!

pompomI had been in love with pom poms my hole life and lately I found some cool accesories to make pom-poms and start making them like a mad person. For my point of view you can add pom-poms to everything, there are a good accessory for accessories. Here are some uses I give them in two projects, for one I did a Pom-pom tree and last week when I did the DIY vs. BIY project of the week I add to the tote some pom-poms too and it really change. So the idea of this post is to sum up the different ways you can make your own pom-poms.pompom8For me, The Clover brand has really good and easy pom-pom makers. You can choose the sizes (depending on what you need it for)and the final result is pretty good.  I also have the Susan Bates pom-pom kit, it´s good but for me it´s more manual.pompom2 pompom7 pompom1 pompom4 pompom3The heart shape pom pom maker is lovely and you can use it to make  Valantine´s garlands, add one in a valantine´s present wrapping or just in a card. In case you don´t have a pom-pom maker (like the ones shown up), don´t panic! You can make a pom pom by your own. Here I give you two short ways for doing them: using your fingers or using a round cardboard.pompom6USING YOUR FINGERS:pompom9It´s super easy! 1. First make a loop of yarn around your fingers. 2. Wrap the yarn in your fingers with a piece of another yarn and make a knot. 3. Cut the outside part. 4. Voilá! You have a very descent pom-pom. Tip: in case you want a very thick pom-pom, you have to put more yarn in the first step.

USING A ROUND CARDBOARD:pompom10In this second option, first you will need to cut a round shape in a cardboard (as is shown in picture 1 and 2). Then start to roll the yarn in the round shape and remember to make a cut in the shape (this help you to roll the yarn faster, you can see it clearly in the third picture). Try to cut the edge of the shape without loosing the yarn everywhere (look picture 4). Remember to secure the cut yarn with another piece of yarn and then trim off the excess of yarn (picture 5 and 6). There you go!! You have another pom-pom to use. Hope you like this two little tutorials! I really enjoy this post! And good luck with your pom-poms! I will be sharing new uses for pom-poms soon (Pom-pom addict, yes I know…)

Love, Nina 😉

p.s: In case you want to buy or try the pom-pom “machines” I added some links in each photo above with their link to amazon. Enjoy!

DIY vs. BIY… Print Totes

I love totes, I use them daily to carry things and for me are very practical. Depending on the color and the material, you can use them to go to the beach, carry notebooks, for work and even to go to shopping. When I decided to make one of my own, I thought that it should have a simple design but it was a must to be stamp. I decided that my main theme would be Paris (is my favorite city in the world) and it was an easy decision because I already have some Paris rubber stamps. If you don´t have rubber stamps, you can do this project by making your own rubber stamps with foamy.

You can make the tote from scratch, you would need to buy some fabric (for stamping the perfect option is cream-coloured), and sew the two rectangles plus two straps. Or if you don´t want to sew, you just need to find a empty tote to design, depends on you! For the stamping process I used black fabric paint and a Eiffel Tower rubber stamp.

In the end I added some colorful ribbons and some pom-poms and Voilá!printtote0

Hope you like it and please try yours!! Love, Nina.

DIY vs. BIY… Cuddly toys

I am really enjoying the art of doing crafts. Inspired in some beautiful plush creatures, I decided to do some stuffed animals and my election were rabbits and owls. The process start by choosing the fabrics and drawing the molde. My own mold was inspired in a drawing I had..rabbit.theninaproject

For this project you would need fabrics (different patterns better), scissors, thread, pins, wadding and needles. rabbit.theninaproject5

You can sew it by hand or if you have a sewing machine you can save some time.rabbit.theninaproject4 rabbits.theninaproject1

1. Cut the mold into the fabric. 2. With black wool draw the eyes of the rabbit or whatever creature you are creating(I imagine them sleepy). 3. Sew it, by hand or by machine. 4. Put something inside the creature with the help of a stick, I used wadding but you can use other fabrics or cotton. 5. Cut the excess of fabric. 6. Put everything together with the help of pins, in my case I choose to use a little bow just to keep it more cute. 7. Have fun with it!!rabbits.theninaprojectHope you like it!!! Love, Nina 😉

DIY vs. BIY Leather Clutches

Weeks ago me and my sister decided to play with some leather I bought time ago. We choose to make some leather clutches and we started trying to dye the leather. The process was easy because we have all the materials in home.

For dyeing leather you will need spray paint of any color or there are special fabric paints which are better for the final results, masking tape and remember to put something (nylon, paper, cardboard) to mantain the surface down below clean.

clutches1Once you have the leather dry, you have to make a paper mold (our mold was 54 cm length x 28 cm width) and cut the lather in the same shape of the mold.

clutch3Then we put the clutch together with the help of some clothespins and make some tiny holes to help the thread go through the leather.

We really enjoy all the process and it is perfect to try it for making a present or even use it yourself. Good luck!! and I hope you like it. clutch7

Summer tiaras… in the countryside

This year I had a really special holidays, because we (me and my love) decided to go to the countryside. We really enjoyed all the good vibes of nature and to be in the middle of nowhere. We were in love with the experience, sometimes is good to slowdown, connect to the nature and relax.christsmaseve13

Our time there was precious and I found lots of good natural materials for crafting.christmasevechristmaseve5

We did some beautiful tiaras for all the girls in the house, and of course I used it every single day!!

If you want to try it, you will need: rosemary, dried flowers, wire and wire cutters. It is a very easy project, try it! I really enjoyed it!

Restyling an antique french commode

I started searching for the perfect commode to my bedroom a bit ago, and the problem I faced was that my findings were or too expensive or very modern ones. So I decide to restyle. Sometimes it is no easy to realise the potential of an old piece in the begining, but you have to see in your mind, imagine a little bit the final product and that´s it.

For this project I used white mate paint and with the help of a cloth I create the vintage effect.

Oh by the way, the commode was from my grandmother when she was 15 🙂

Do you have a restyle idea in your mind? Are you needing something for your house and no founding it? Trust me, even if it take some time try restyling!! Just for fun!

DIY vs. BIY “Do it versus Buy it”

Today I am introducing a new feature call “DO IT VS. BUY IT “. This new thing is a combination of two of my big loves: shopping and crafting.

For me this feature is a way of trying to do things that maybe in an other way I would not do it. Just to push myself harder and try things to decor my house, to use it myself or even to make a homemade gift, why not? The important thing here is that there is no going to be a winner, you can buy it or do it, that would be your choice.

For this first post I choose a lovely project, that I did for my brother´s new house: a pom pom tree. The ocassion: Christmas.doitvsbuyit

For this project you would need: yarn of any color (my choice was purple), sharp scissors, a plant pot, a wooden stick, some fabric to cover the pot and a pom pom maker or if you don´t have one you can do a pom pom with card board or even using your fingers.

The first step is to make the giant pom pom, I used the Clover extra large pom pom maker. I really recommend it!

The second part of the project was painting the plant pot and the stick, for the pot I chosen purple and white and for the stick I used some neon colors to add a little fun!

The last part is to put everything together and ta-ra! A new pom-pom tree is born 😉doitvs.buyit6

Hope you enjoy it! And I wish you can try it! The most important thing: have fun in the process, if not remember you can always BUY IT!

Nina 🙂
